Examining Factors Influencing the Use of Shared Electric Scooters

Shared e-scooters have the potential to increase access, complement transit, and replace automobiles, all while reducing emissions congestion. However, there are concerns worldwide over mode’s safety issues risks. In this paper, we explore both motivations barriers using e-scooters. Data collected from a stated preference survey, sample consisting of mostly university staff students in Singapore. Three logit models with varying specifications e-scooters’ speed lane use one’s prior experience conflict personal mobility device (PMD) estimated. Overall, three very comparable fit (adjusted R2 about 0.55) consistent results. The results indicate preferences for if they faster off sidewalk. bad or unsafe PMD would negatively affect greater degree, although it varies across individuals. Our study suggests diverting scooters sidewalk increasing may not always be effective encouraging behavioral shifts toward alternative mode. Other solutions such as improving services enhancing traffic should explored considered instead.
